Hi there

As a new member i find etiquette somehow confusing, and i don’t want to offend anyone. can someone explain some of the basic etiquette at the dojo? When to bow and how to bow properly, same with kneeling?

Regards
Blas

It's pretty simple really. Bow when you enter and leave the Dojo, before and after sparring/ partner work, and kneel when everyone else does. If you are late, go to the front of the class and kneel, until you are asked to join the class. Bow to acknowledge this, and join in. That's it i think. Unless i'm mistaken, there's a good explanation of the word 'OSS' on the Shogun website.

I've never really thought about it. I suppose if it feels right, then yes. I think that sometimes things can be little too serious in some Dojos. I certainly would not ask to be called Sensei myself, and sometimes feel a little embarrassed to be addressed that way.
